Take the blinds off the window and place them in a bathtub with warm water, a few generous squirts of dish soap, and a cup of baking soda (a natural stain fighter). Let the blinds soak for about an hour and then rinse with warm water. Finish them off by wiping away any excess dirt or dust.

Similarly, the best way to clean plantation shutters

Close shutters as flat as possible and dust with a shutter cleaner such as a feather duster or soft dust cloth. Start at the top and work your way across each slat. Work all the way to the bottom, then rotate slats and repeat the process, remembering to dust the windowsill, too. It’s a fact, shutters are the easiest of all window dressings to keep clean.

When just dusting won’t cut it, mix a solution of 1 teaspoon dish soap and 1 gallon of hot water. Use a clean, soft cloth dipped in the solution and wrung out nearly dry to wipe down the shutters while in the closed position, first on one side and then the other. Rinse the cloth each time it gets grimy.

Dust your blinds with a feather duster, microfiber cloth or the brush attachment on your vacuum. Close the blinds and dust this side. Then, reverse the blinds and dust the other side. Run a dryer sheet over each slat to help repel dust.

Here are some material-specific tips: Wooden Blinds – Excess moisture is wood’s worst enemy, so avoid getting wooden blinds wet. To dust them, use a clean, soft cloth, a feather duster, or a vacuum brush. To put more life into the wood, use a cleaner made specifically for wood, such as lemon oil.
